James Campbell National Wildlife Refuge
adjacent to the town of Kahuku, HI 96731
This NWR consists of over 160 acres of wetland habitat & is primarily devoted to the recovery of four of Hawaii's six endemic water birds (Hawaiian stilt, Hawaiian moorhen, Hawaiian coot, and Hawaiian duck).
All four birds are listed as endangered species due to their precipitous decline in the 20th century. We will take a 45 minute guided walking tour to view these special birds. You should know that it is an honor & a privilege to be able to visit this refuge, & we are lucky that we’re able to go there.
